Christmas In The Woods for PP520

Happy Sunday! Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the lovely and talented Joanne is hosting our Theme Challenge.
Less than 20 days until Christmas, have you mailed your cards out yet? I’m getting mine out this week, so this challenge was quite timely. I had the piece of the Plaid Tidings Designer Series Paper sitting on my desk, so that was my starting point for this card. This paper is my favorite from the Stampin’ Up!® August - December Mini Catalog. I’ve used it a LOT to create cards fo so many occasions.

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
Color Combo:
Now that I had the DSP, I knew the colors I wanted to use. I pulled out the In the Woods Dies because that detailed tree is such a great focal point for a card, especially in Gold Foil. I added lots of dimensionals behind the cut out ares to really make it pop and some rhinestones for added sparkle.

I also love the “snowy slope” die in this set. I cut out three pieces of Whisper White and layered them up to create some extra interest to the “ground”. I also added texture and some sparkly shimmer spray, which is tough to see in the photos. Then I popped on a simple layered sentiment from the Joy Dies and finished the card off with the little banners and ribbon for added detail. Ha, I just realized that the only stamping on this card is on the inside! Die cuts and DSP for the win!
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Shaded Spruce Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5 1/2”
  • Poppy Parade Cardstock: 4” x 5 1/4” and a small banner punched strip for the banner
  • Plaid Tidings Designer Series Paper: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 2”, 3-7/8” x 1-1/4” and 3-7/8” x 1”, die cut top of each piece using the “snowy slope” from the In the Woods Dies and emboss with Subtle 3D Embossing Folder
  • Gold Foil: scrap to die cut tree and a banner punched strip for banner
  • Die cut “Joy” sentiment using scraps of Poppy Parade and Shaded Spruce Cardstock. To make it easier to adhere the Poppy Parade word, use an Adhesive Sheet to the back of cardstock before die-cutting
  • Poppy Parade ribbon from All the Trimmings Ribbon Combo Pack and Red Rhinestones
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Plaid Tidings Designer Series Paper (inside card): 1” x 5-1/4”
Here’s a peek inside the card. I simply stamped the sentiment using the Peace & Joy stamp set and added an extra strip of the Plaid Tidings DSP. All ready to pop in the mail to spread some holiday cheer!

Peace & Joy for PP516

Happy Sunday! Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the lovely Joanne is hosting our Color Challenge.
Color combos are always a great starting point to jump start your creativity. Sometimes when I see a color combo, I immediately thing of a stamp set or an occasion. For this combo, I think it goes without saying that Christmas seemed like the perfect occasion for these traditional holiday colors. It just so happens that the “Tis the Season Designer Series Paper from the Stampin’ Up!® August - December Mini Catalog features these colors, too. If you have visited me recently, you might now that I’m pretty much obsessed with anything plaid right now, I cranked up some holiday tunes and got to work on this fun and festive card!
I decided to use the Peace & Joy stamp set and coordinating Joy Dies because I just LOVE a big, bold sentiment on a card. I also like that you can easily layer the sentiments together for added color and detail. The little “accent sentiments” in the stamp set are really cool too because  they are really easy to cut out and pop up. I also stamped and fussy cut two holly berries for a little added detail along with some sparkly rhinestone “berries", because berries are more fun when they sparkle, right? For that little pop of gold (or silver) from the color combo, I simply added trio of Gilded Gems. I kind of felt like the die cut sentiment and the patterned paper were the stars of the card, so I didn’t want TOO much metallic detail to compete with them.
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Real Red Card Base: 4 1-/4” x 11”, scored at 5 1/2”
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock: 4” x 5 1/4”
  • 'Tis the Season Designer Series Paper (green plaid): 3 7/8” x 5 1/8”
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 2 1/8” x 4 3/4”
  • ’Tis the Season Designer Series Paper (red plaid): 2” x 4 3/4”, adhere to Whisper White layer above and add to the green plaid layer at an angle, trimming off the excess on either side
  • Shaded Spruce, Whisper White and Real Red Cardstock: scraps to die cut three sizes of the word “Bright”, adhere together and accent the Real Red layer with Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush
  • Whisper White Cardstock: Scrap to stamp “Merry”, “and” along with two holly berry images, cut around the images with scissors and adhere to card using Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Red trim from Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack, Red Rhinestones and gold Gilded Gems
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5 1/4”
  • ’Tis the Season Designer Series Paper (green plaid, inside card): 1 1/4” x 5 1/4"
Finally, here is a peek inside the card. I added a little strip of DSP along with a stamped sentiment and some little leafy accents. Nothing too fancy but it keep the party going from the front of the card. :)
