Kylie’s International Stampin’ Up! Blog Highlights - August 2019

Hello and thanks for stopping by! Today I am super-excited to be sharing the my card using the Daisy Lane Bundle for Kylie Bertucci’s International Stampin’ Up!® Blog Highlights

This is my second month participating in this event and you are able to vote for me and my card! The top ten winners will take part in an international blog hop later this month. You can vote by clicking here: http://bit.ly/KyliesInternationalHighlightsAugustVoteForMe
The theme for this event is Encouragement so I decided to create some cards to send to friends, just because. This weekend, there was so much tragedy here in the United States with two horrific shootings in Texas and Ohio. Just heartbreaking. I think it’s so, so important to share some “happy” with those you know whenever you can. Receiving a handmade card in the mail with a positive and uplifting message might be just the thing someone needs to make their day a little brighter. We all can use more HAPPY MAIL, right?
When I create in my stamp studio, I tend to always gravitate toward bright colors as my first choice. For these cards, I wanted to try a color combo with more of a “shabby chic” feel to it. Once I decided on the colors, I added accents to really stay in that theme, like the pearl accents, lace trim and embossed background. I also sponged Crumb Cake ink all over the embossed background and around the edges of the sentiment layer to give it more of a distressed/weathered look. These cards have a lot of texture and dimension, which I totally love.

 Today’s Colors:
The daisy was created using three different stamp sets and four different punches. The two large daisies are stamped in Crumb Cake ink on Petal Pink cardstock using the Daisy Lane stamp set and punched with the Daisy Punch. The smaller daisy is stamped in Crumb Cake ink on Petal Pink Vellum (from the Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock pack) and them punched using the Medium Daisy Punch. When stamping on vellum, just make sure you give plenty of time for the ink to dry.

The leaves were stamped in Pear Pizzazz ink on Petal Pink cardstock using the Painted Harvest stamp set and then punched with the coordinating Leaf Punch. The center of the flower was stamped and heat embossed in gold using the Daisy Delight stamp set and the punched using a 1/2” Circle Punch. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals between all of the layers on the flower but you could always forgo a few if you wanted it to have a little less dimension to mail.

Card Measurements:
  • Crumb Cake Card Base - 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Soft Suede Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Petal Pink Cardstock (embossed with Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder) - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock (for stamped sentiment) - 1” x 3-7/8”
  • Scraps of Petal Pink Cardstock and Petal Pink Vellum (from Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock pack) for stamped and punched daisies and leaves
  • Petal Pink Cardstock (inside card) - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock (inside card) - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
Finally a look inside the card. I added an uplifting sentiment and some leafy accents using the stamps from the Daisy Lane stamp set. I can’t wait to get these cards in the mail! I actually switched up the colors a little using this design for my team swaps this month, so I’ll be making quite a few more of these cards really soon.

Thanks so much for visiting today and I’d love it if you would vote for my card! You can vote by clicking the image below or through this link: http://bit.ly/KyliesInternationalHighlightsAugustVoteForMe

Butterfly Gala for PP433

Hello and Happy Sunday to you! It’s time for another weekly challenge over at The Paper Players! This week, the lovely Jaydee has a fun Clean-and-Simple (CAS) challenge for us: One Layer Wonder.
Oh, Clean and Simple week is always a bit of a challenge for me. I’m learning to embrace it though and do enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone. It’s so funny how the “simple” cards take a really long time to create, for me anyway. Anyone else in this zone? Or does Clean and Simple come easy to you? Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

Today’s Colors:

Now I know that “technically" there is a layer there. Do you see it? I actually cut the Whisper White Cardstock I was stamping and sponging on to 4-1/8” x 5-3/8” to adhere to a Thick Whisper White Cardstock base. Because I was working with a few “messy” elements, I wanted to make sure that I kept the card base clean. Nothing is worse than getting ink smudges on the back of your card, right? This wasn’t so much a layer as it was functional. So, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Haha!
I thought I’d share with you how I added the sponged area to my card. I had initially tried to mask off the lines using washi tape directly on the Whisper White Cardstock. However, no matter how careful I was, it would tear my cardstock when I went to remove it. Eek!

So, using my craft mat (of course, it’s pink!) I lined up the piece of Whisper White Cardstock so it was even on the grid. Then I took 2 pieces of scrap cardstock and added them over the white cardstock to create a 1-3/4” opening for the sponging. Again, I used the grid lines on the craft mat to make sure they were even. Then, being careful to keep everything straight on the lines, I added washi tape all around the cardstock to hold it in place. Using Stamping Sponges, I added layers of ink to create the shading.

An important tip when you are adding the ink with the sponges is to put your hand on top of all of the pieces of the cardstock the white cardstock doesn’t move around when you are sponging. Be gentle with those sponges, too. "Dab-Dab-Dab" them on your cardstock to gradually build the ink instead of being heavy-handed with them. Remember, you can always add more ink, you can’t take it away.
I couldn’t decide on the ink I wanted to use for the butterflies and the sentiment. Black was TOO dark, gray and brown were just “blah"…and then I decided that GOLD would really make this card pop! I stamped the butterflies and the sentiment using Versamark Ink and then added Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then I used the Heat Tool to heat emboss the images. There is something about metallic embossing powder. It always looks so elegant and beautiful!

Don’t forget to always use your Embossing Buddy before you heat emboss though to make sure you don’t have any stray embossing powder in places you don’t want it.
Here is a peek at the inside of the card. I simply added three little butterflies using the colors from the front to dress it up a little bit. I figure I can add a sentiment later or leave it blank to send a little handwritten note to a friend.

I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share a project using the color challenge. We’d love to see what you come up with! You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday March 22nd, 2019.
