Dusting off the Cobwebs for Paper Players #226

Well hello there stamping friends! I decided to get my little broom out to dust off the cobwebs (and a wee bit of glitter) from my blog...FINALLY! If anyone has stuck with me this long, you might remember that I took a little (OK, a LONG) break back in July of last year. My husband and I moved into our new home and between that and work, life got pretty hectic. Sadly, crafting moved to the back burner. 

Flash forward to a brand new home and a freshly painted stamp studio. I'm so excited to finally be back at The Paper Players hosting the first challenge of 2015. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and am super excited to be creating with these amazing ladies once again. We are also welcoming our new DT members and Guest Designers this week, so please stop by and say hello. This week, I have a fun Theme Challenge to share: "Everything Old is New Again". The details of the challenge are pretty simple: simply create a project with a recycled or re-purposed item(s). 

To create my card, I used a holiday gifted box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates (yes, some are missing...thanks to my hubby...and maybe me. *wink*), a Birchbox which held my cosmetic goodies from my November subscription and some matches. Isn't this a random mix of re-purposed items? I really wanted to try to challenge myself with this one. After not creating for a while, it was kind of fun to just look for inspiration around the house to get that creative mojo working. 

I used the new One Tag Fits All stamp set and coordinating punch. I'm NOT going to list everything I have used on the card because honestly, this card was all about being creative and having fun. I wasn't wrapped up in the "ingredients" of the card. I thought this would be perfect card to use paired with a candle (and maybe some chocolate) for a gift to a friend. Pretty cute, right? 

There have been many changes since I have last ventured into the blogging world. I won't go into all the nitty-gritty right now, but I absolutely have to share a photo of this little nugget. This is Miss Sophie. Isn't she ADORABLE?? She has been taking over the house since she arrived last month. She is 5 months old and as sassy as they come!

Recycle it! for Paper Players #140

Hello and Happy Sunday to you! This week at the Paper Players, the fabulous Nance is our hostess with an awesome theme challenge for us: Recycle It! 

For my card, I used two re-purposed items. First, I'm not sure if you know that Stampin' Up! has a cool new monthly paper crafting kit called Paper Pumpkin. You can read more about it HERE. Well, long story short, the fun kit comes in this cute orange box and the contents are wrapped in Pool Party tissue paper. That was pretty much the inspiration for my card. I used that tissue paper to create that fluffy flower. I started by punching out 8 circles using the Scallop Circle punch. 

Quick Tip: Punches do not cut through tissue paper really easily. So I just put the tissue over a piece of card stock to make punching them out a little easier. Added bonus, you have some extra punches to use on another project (or for a class or a club). It could be a time saver if you are organized like that. I am not. Ha!

After crumpling up the tissue paper, I layered all of the punches on top of each other and popped a mini brad through the center to hold them together. Then I added some Dazzling Details glitter glue to the edges of the flower for a little extra sparkle.

My second re-purposed item was an old pair of jeans. They were a favorite pair, so I figured they could live on in a stamp project. I used them for the scalloped border. That cute sentiment is from the Paper Pumpkin kit. I love it! Obviously this is not a card I plan to mail. This will be one I give in-person or add to a gift bag to dress it up. The Paper Players Challenge #41: Recycling!

Howdy and Happy SUPER Sunday! I just love Sunday's because that is the day we launch a new challenge over at The Paper Players. This week, the theme is RECYCLING!! How cool is that? Look around you right now...what can you re-purpose for the sake of creativity? If it is heading to the trash...*STOP*...look again...can you actually USE it?? (Mail, packaging, newspapers, magazines...even OLD clothes!) I BET you can and we want to see it! 

So, where did I get the inspiration for my card? Well, I simply looked no further then an item that is occasionally sitting on my desk while I create...a can of Diet Dr. Pepper! I cut open the can, punched a few shapes then ran them through the Big Shot ...and there you have it, recycled "embellishments"! I figure that this card makes one less can in my recycle bin this week and THAT is pretty cool! 

Also, the twine accent was recycled from a bakery box that contained some yummy treats from a brunch I attended earlier in the week. Anything can be re-purposed, if you just give it the chance! 

After cracking open that can, I punched out six 1-1/4" circles and one Scalloped Oval. I embossed them with both the Vintage Wallpaper and Square Lattice Embossing folders. Embossing aluminum is super-easy and the results are awesome! The edges CAN be a wee bit sharp, though...nothing dangerous, though. Not to worry!  

I added the same, coordinating embossing on the layers of the card. I used Blueberry Crisp DSP and lightly sanded it to give a "distressed" look.

Finally, here is the decorated inside. I originally intended the front to have 8 circles...but short of making this one an 8x10 card, I had to scale back a bit. I just used my "surplus" for the inside:
