Time for a fun new creative challenge over at The Paper Players!
This week, the lovely Jaydee is hosting our Theme Challenge.
I just love the “Birds and/or Bees” Theme Jaydee selected! Our yard is in full bloom right now so this challenge came at the perfect time. It is so wonderful to sit outside and enjoy the buzzing bees & beautiful songs from the birds. The cardinals are always my favorite to listen to and watch!

The new Stampin’ Up!® 2022-2023 Annual Catalog goes live on May 3rd. I’m so excited for all of the fun new stamping goodies! For my card, I decided to use the new Sweet Songbirds stamp set and coordinating Songbird Builder Punch to create my own little cardinal inspired by the little guy in my yard. This is such a fun set to create with! I also used three of the new In Colors: Sweet Sorbet, Tahitian Tide and Parakeet Party. This year’s In Colors might be some of my favorite of ALL TIME! I’m having so much fun using them already.
I actually made a bunch of these cards for my team swaps for the month. As a demonstrator, we can only order a limited amount of products during the catalog preorder. After I got started, I wasn’t sure I was going to have enough In Color Designer Series Paper for all of my swap cards. I had already used quite a bit on some other projects. So, I decided to create a fun pop of color and pattern in the background using 1/2” cardstock strips. This is a great way to use up some scraps and you could even make them a little smaller or larger, depending on the look you are going for. I also embossed the background with the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder, which was a perfect match for this sweet songbird!
Card Measurements & Details:
- Sweet Sorbet Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
- Basic White Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”, embossed with the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder
- Basic White Cardstock: 1-3/4” x 5-1/4”
- Sweet Sorbet, Tahitian Tide and Parakeet Party Cardstock: 1-3/4” x 1/2” pieces, adhered to the 1-3/4” x 5-1/4” Basic White Cardstock as shown. Trim off excess.
- Basic White Cardstock: die cut a a 3” circle from the Layering Circles Dies, stamp branch, leaves and musical notes
- Basic White Cardstock: scrap to stamp songbird, flowers and leaf
- Mango Melody Cardstock: scrap to punch out two bird beaks (one for front and one inside card)
- 2022-2024 In Color Designer Series Paper: scrap to punch one bird wing in polka dot pattern
- Tahitian Tide Baker’s Twine and Rhinestone Basic Jewels
- Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4”, stamp scene
- Sweet Sorbet Cardstock (inside card): scrap to punch one bird wing
Finally, here is a peek inside the card! I stamped a little scene to keep the party going from the front of the card. I love that little bird, just walking along and singing his happy song. So cute! I skipped the sentiment to leave room for a handwritten thank you note.
