Sunshine & Rainbow Skies for PP684

Happy Sunday and Happy April, crafty friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, it’s my pleasure to be hosting our Theme Challenge.

My theme is “Sunshine & Rainbows which I think is so fitting for the season. Here are a couple of ideas for this theme to get your creative mojo working:

Sunshine & Rainbows -
Use a sun, rainbow or "rainy day" theme (umbrellas, rain boots, etc)
on your card

I sure hope you will take this challenge for a spin and join us over at The Paper Players. We’d love to see what YOU create!

*I’ve shared list of measurements along with a supply list of products used to create this card at the end of this post.

When I came up with the theme for the challenge, I already knew that I would be using the Bright Skies stamp set and coordinating dies from the Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalog. Sunshine and clouds? Check. Now on to that rainbow. I thought it would be fun to do a little “scrappy strip” rainbow on my card front because you can never have too many bright and happy colors on one card.

I searched and searched for some patterned paper that I liked and I finally settled on the Sunny Days Designer Series Paper. This paper was avaialable to earn for FREE during Sale-a-Bration in January and February of this year. I happened to earn a LOT of it, so instead of letting it take up space in my craft room unused, I really wanted to use it for this card. You could even stamp some clouds from the set in the background to create a similar look if you didn’t have the paper. Or add some embossing for texture.

I also added a little smily face to the sunshine using the Taco Fiesta stamp set, which was designed by my dear friend Erica Cerwin. Adding a little smiley face is a little detail that really adds so much, don’t you think? This is such a happy card, sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face. To finish things off I added some Iridescent Foil Gems because you always have to have a little “pop” (wink, wink) of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Card Measurements:
  • Daffodil Delight Card Base: 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock: 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Sunny Days Designer Series Paper (Sale-A-Bration, no longer available): 5-1/8” x 3-7/8”
  • Bubble Bath, Melon Mambo, Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Shaded Spruce, Pool Party, Azure Afternoon & Gorgeous Grape Cardstock: 1/4” x 4-1/4” each
  • Basic White Cardstock: scrap for stamping/die-cutting sun and  (3) cloud die-cuts
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock: 5-1/8” x 3/4”, stamp & heat emboss sentiment, then banner punch each end with Banner’s Pick a Punch
  • Basic White Cardstock (card interior): 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Sunny Days DSP (card interior): 5-1/4” x 3/4”

Finally a peek inside the card! I added another strip of that Sunny Days DSP, this time in the rainbow pattern. I also stamped another smiling sunshine to “keep the party going from the front of the card”. I made a bunch of these to have on hand to cheer up a friend when they need a little “happy mail” to brighten their day!

Bright Skies for PP679

Happy Sunday and Happy March, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the lovely Claire is hosting our Theme Challenge.

This was such a fun challenge to celebrate the Spring season. I realize it isn’t quite Spring everywhere but here in south Texas our weather has been lovely lately. The yard is starting to see some blooms and although rain isn’t in the forecast here for a bit, it is a good sign of things to come. I sure hope you will join us over at The Paper Players. We’d love to see what YOU create!

*I’ve shared the supply list of products used to create this card at the end of this post.

Color Combo:
For my card, I decided to use the Bright Skies stamps and dies from the Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalog. As soon as I saw this set, I knew I had to have it. The sentiments are so sweet and I just love all of the adorable “weather” images. This set also coordinated with the Sunny Days Designer Series Paper which was a free offering during Sale-A-Bration. I love how the paper coordinates with the cloud dies for lots of fun patterns. This paper is no longer available as Sale-A-Bration just ended at the start of the month, but this card could easily be re-created with the stamp set and other products like an embossed background in place of the patterned paper.

Here is another version of the card using different patterns for the clouds. I love having variety in the patterns. They create slightly different looks but it all still works well together.

I made this card on my weekly Facebook Live video today. If you’d like to check it out, you can watch it HERE

I die-cut the little raindrops from the Three Color Glimmer Paper, which I just realized I forgot to add to the supply list below. It’s an Online Exclusive right now. The little pop of sparkle adds the perfect amount of detail. I also added a little pop of Silver & White Sheer Ribbon behind the heat embossed sentiment for some fun texture. A trio of sequins added some extra pop without a lot of bulk. And of course, I had to add some Wink of Stella to the sunshine, just because.

Finally, here is a peek inside the card! I added an extra strip of DSP along with a stamped sun, because more sunshine is never a bad thing, right? There is lots of room to write a sweet note to a friend.

I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project for our Sketch ChallengeWe’d love to see what you come up with! You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday March 8th, 2024
