Sweet Ice Cream for PP530

Happy Sunday!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the always fabulous Ann is hosting our monthly Sketch Challenge.
It’s so great to be back after a taking last week off from The Paper Players. We had a crazy winter storm here in Texas starting February 14th that brought snow, freezing temps along with lengthy power and water outages. We lost power for about 4 days and everything was a still a bit unsettled last weekend. I’m mostly caught up and things are finally back to “normal” here again, although I’m worried many of the trees in our yard will not bounce back. :(
I’ve mentioned before that Sketch Challenges are my FAVORITE! To get started, I look at the layout then I look through my stamp sets and one or two usually jump out at me. I needed a birthday card and the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set and coordinating Ice Cream Builder Punch were perfect for this sketch! Why not "Treat Yourself” to a triple scoop to celebrate your special day, right?

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
I really wanted to add some extra pattern to the card to play off the sprinkles on the ice cream. (Side Note: I REALLY wish we had a polka dot embossing folder.) Then I remembered the Pattern Party Decorative Masks! They are essentially stencils that add a fun pop of pattern using ink, embossing paste and even shimmer paint. I need to remember to use them more often! There are four different patterns in this set and my favorite has to be these playful polka dots. I used one of the new Blending Brushes to add some ink and then embossed the cardstock for a little pop of texture.
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Pool Party Cardstock - 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Blackberry Bliss Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Petal Pink Cardstock - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, add polka dots using Blending Brushes / Petal Pink ink and emboss using Subtle 3D Embossing Folder
  • Ice Cream Shop Designer Series Paper - 3” x 4-1/4”
  • Basic White Cardstock - scraps for stamping and punching ice cream cone and scoops
  • Ice Cream Scoop Colors: Purple Posy scoop / Blackberry Bliss sprinkles, Pool Party scoop / Bermuda Bay sprinkles and Petal Pink scoop / Terracotta Tile sprinkles (Note: if you don’t have Purple Posy ink (as it is currently unavailable) - use either a Purple Posy Stampin’ Write Marker or Highland Heather ink stamped-off once as an alternative)
  • Ice Cream Cones - stamp solid image in Cinnamon Cider Ink stamped-off once, then stamp the waffle cone detail in Cinnamon Cider Ink full-strength
  • Basic White Cardstock - scrap to stamp sentiment in Blackberry Bliss ink and die cut using frame from Hippo & Friends Dies
  • Pool Party Sheer Ribbon and Champagne Rhinestones
  • Basic White Cardstock (inside card) - 4” x 5-1/4”, stamp sentiments in Blackberry Bliss ink
  • Ice Cream Shop Designer Series Paper (inside card) - 4” x 1/2”
Finally a peek inside the card! I simply added another strip of DSP and stamped some fun polka dots and a coordinating sentiment. I love, love, LOVE the font in this stamp set. Such a fun and happy card to celebrate a birthday!

When I get new products, I like to use the project samples in the catalog as a starting point for creative inspiration. There are SO many awesome ideas in the catalog and it’s a fun way to dig into those new products and start using them.

This card is a CASE of a card featured in the new Mini Catalog. So, what does CASE-ing mean? I’ve heard it described two different ways: “Copy-and-Share-Everything” or “Copy-and-Selectively-Edit”. Personaly, I like the second term a little better, because I usually find that I never truly CASE a card EXACTLY. I did add a few more layers and some extra details to it because that’s how I roll. Haha! I did stick with the gorgeous color combo featured in the catalog, which completely made me fall in love with purple. I’ve never really been a “purple fan”, but this card changed that for sure. Now, I’m Team Purple ALL the way!

Color Combo:
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Gorgeous Grape Card Base: 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Purple Posy Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, sponge Highland Heather ink over polka dot Decorative Mask using Sponge Dauber and emboss using Subtle 3D Embossing Folder
  • Playing with Patterns Designer Series Paper: 1-1/2” x 5-1/8”
  • Whisper White Cardstock: scraps for stamping and die cutting (sentiment stamped in Gorgeous Grape Ink, 3 sets of flowers in Highland Heather / Gorgeous Grape Ink and three sets of leaves in Granny Apple Green Ink)
  • Purple Tri-Color Ribbon and Rhinestone Basic Jewels
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Playing with Patterns Designer Series Paper (inside card): 3/4” x 5-1/4”
Finally, a peek inside the card. I simply added another strip of the Designer Series Paper and a stamped flower. Initially, I was going to add a stamped birthday sentiment, but decided to just leave it blank for a handwritten note.

Once again, you can check out the video for these cards by clicking here: Art Gallery CASE the Catalog Facebook Live.
