Our theme for the Hop this month is “Tag Team!” in which our specific focus is to share TWO coordinating projects. I decided to make use the Floating Frame Technique for my projects. What I love about this technique, is that you do the work ONCE and have components to create two projects. Boom! Talk about working smarter, not harder.

Color Combo:
Making a Floating Frame is pretty easy, if you have one key ingredient: Glad Press and Seal. (You could also use an extra large Post-It that has full-coverage “stickiness" on the back) I originally saw the idea for this technique from Jennifer McGuire and I made another set of cards with it on this blog post HERE. There are a lot of great videos out on how to do this technique, so instead of trying to reinvent the wheel and over explain it, just hit up Mr. Google and search for Floating Frame Card. (or click Jennifer’s name above, to watch her video - wink, wink)
So, it’s not a surprise that I LOVE making Halloween projects. I know not everyone celebrates Halloween and that’s ok. Although I am kind of particular with what I like for Halloween. It can’t be TOO spooky or over-the-top scary…I’m not fan of that. And in NO way can it include creepy clowns. That’s a BIG nope! (Random fun fact: I’m terrified of clowns) But I also don’t tend to gravitate to really “cutesy” Halloween, either.
I think that’s why I am so smitten with the new Hallows Night Magic stamp set and Halloween Magic Dies. Sure, there are spiders and bats but when you add in some cool Black Glitter Paper and Iridescent Pearls, the become less creepy and more “stylish”. Plus the coordinating Magic in This Night Designer Series Paper kind of has this “artsy” vibe to it that I think is pretty cool. Roses and lace mixed with cobwebs, spiders and bats? I can work with that.
Card Measurements and Details:
- Basic Black Card Base - 4 1/4” x 11”, scored at 5 1/4”
- Smoky Slate Cardstock - 4 1/8” x 5 3/8”
- Blackberry Bliss Cardstock - 4” x 5 1/4”, place die cut glitter bats all over this layer and proceed to make the Foating Frame Layers (refer to video linked above)
- Basic Black Cardstock - scrap to die cut the frame image from the Halloween Magic Dies
- Magic in This Night Designer Series Paper (floral pattern) - scrap to die cut another frame image from the Halloween Magic Dies
- Cut the Basic Black die cut frame in half and add a little “frame" around the DSP label, the banner will cover up the “gap” from where it’s cut in half
- Smoky Slate Cardstock - 3 1/2” x 3/4”, stamp sentiment in Momento Ink, banner cut ends using Tailored Tag Punch and sponge Smoky Slate ink around edges for a “distressed" look
My second card uses the “inside” of the frame with more of those super sparkly bats. I added a second die cut stitched rectangle embossed with some cobwebs for added texture along with a BIG fluffy bow using the Metallic Mesh Ribbon. I seriously can NOT get enough of this ribbon! I also added some rhinestone “ yes" to the larger bats for some added detail. I originally used some red rhinestones but they stood out a little TOO much in a creepy way, so I opted to color the clear rhinestones with a Stampin’ Blends marker, so they coordinated with my color combo a little more.
Card Measurements and Details:
- Blackberry Bliss Card Base - 4 1/4 x 11”, scored at 5 1/2”
- Smoky Slate Cardstock - 4” x 5 1/4”, sponge edges with Smoky Slate ink
- Magic in This Night Designer Series Paper (striped pattern) - 3 7/8” x 5 1/8”, tie a piece of the Metallic Mesh Ribbon around this layer
- Rich Razzleberry die cut with glitter bats leftover from first project, add some Wink of Stella or "sparkle spray” with Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint mixed with rubbing alcohol (70% or less) in a Stampin’ Spritzer
- Basic Black Cardstock - die cut a scrap with the 2 3/16” x 3 1/2” Stitched Rectangle Die, then emboss using the Cobweb 3D Embossing Folder
- Smoky Slate Cardstock - scrap to stamp sentiment in Momento Ink and then die cut using the 1 3/8” circle from the Layering Circles Dies (I meant to sponge some Smoky Slate ink around the circle, oops)
- Color five small rhinestones with the Light Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends and add to card front
I also dressed up the inside of the cards using a 4” x 5 1/4” piece of Whisper White Cardstock, along with a strip of the coordinating DSP that measures 3/4” x 5 1/4”. I stamped a coordinating sentiment and a little bat, too. I totally forgot to snap a photo, so I’ll edit that in soon.
