Lovely as a Tree and Shimmer Paints

Hello and Happy Monday to you! If you are here in the United States, I hope you have been enjoying this long Labor Day weekend. Today I wanted to share another one of the cards I created after my Facebook Live Video that I shared on Friday. In that video, I shared 7 different techniques to use with the new Shimmer Paints that will be coming out in the Stampin’ Up! ® Holiday Catalog on September 5th. There are 4 colors of Shimmer Paint in the catalog: Frost White, Champagne Mist, Vegas Gold and Bright Copper. My card today features the second of seven techniques from the video. I hope you enjoy it!

Lovely as a Tree is such a classic stamp set. It was sitting on my desk and when I got started with the Shimmer Paints, I thought it might be fun to see how it would look to add a little “flocking” to the tree. It’s really easy to achieve this look. Just grab a paint brush with a fine tip and dust the tree and the “ground” with some of the Frost White Shimmer Paint. A little bit goes a long way with the paint and it creates such a fun detail.

I stamped the image in Shaded Spruce ink but didn’t stamp the ink on the base of the tree and the ground below the tree. For that I used a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker. Stamping the image on Crumb Cake cardstock really helped the shimmer paint stand out a little more. I distressed the edges of the cardstock with some Crumb Cake ink on a Stampin’ Sponge and then “flicked” a little bit of ink from the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker around the image for a little more of that rustic look.
Did you know that with Stampin’ Blends you can create any color of pearl or rhinestone you want? Because the Blends are alcohol based, they work well to shade those accents. I used the Dark Old Olive Stamping Blends Marker to make some Christmas decorations for the little tree. I sponged more ink around the Old Olive embossed layer to add some more of a weathered look and I love how the Under the Mistletoe DSP looks like falling snow. I couldn’t decide what to do with the sentiment, so I just stamped it right on the Old Olive layer.

Here are the measurements:
  • Shaded Spruce Card Base - 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Old Olive Cardstock - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Under the mistletoe DSP - 2-1/2” x 3-7/8”
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock - 2-1/4” x 4”
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock (for stamped image) - 2” x 3-3/4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside of card) - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Under the Mistletoe DSP - 1” x 5-1/4”

Finally, here is a quick look inside the card. Just using a little pop of the DSP and the coordinating sentiment from the Farmhouse Christmas stamp set.

I hope you enjoyed this card featuring Shimmer Paint. Be sure to stop back by soon because I have many more projects to share with the remaining 5 techniques I featured in the video. I’ve got a lot to share with you in the next couple of days.
