Gorgeous Leaves for PP565

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the always amazing Ann is hosting our Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge.

My Tic-Tac-Toe Selection: ALL 9 Squares!

Next to Sketch Challenges, Tic-Tac-Toe Challenges are always a favorite! They are a great way to inspire your creativity as you simply pick a row on the board and get crafting. I thought it would be fun to REALLY make a challenge out of this one and complete a project using every square on the board. I almost forgot the stitching but squeaked it in at the end on the sentiment label. Whew, mission accomplished! I hope you will join us and play along this week.

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
Color Combo:
Since I knew I would be featuring leaves on my card, I grabbed the Gorgeous Leaves stamp set and coordinating Intricate Leaves Dies. I have used this bundle a LOT and it really is one of those “must-haves” for the fall season. I just love the detail in the die cut leaves, so I went with a trio of leaves as the focal point of my card. Since the stamp set doesn’t have any sentiments, I decided to pair it up with another fall favorite, the Welcoming Woods stamp set. This is also another set I reach for regularly because is has a lot of sentiments for different occasions.

I’m also really loving the Harvest Meadow Designer Series Paper right now, so that was my color combo inspiration for this card. I never really thought of Calypso Coral as a fall color but I just love it paired with Bumblebee, Crumb Cake and Soft Suede. If you have ever visited me before you might know that even though Cajun Craze is a great rust color for the fall season, it’s just not my favorite and I tend to shy away from it most of the time. Guess what Cajun Craze? There’s a new kid on the block for the season and her name is Calypso Coral! I love how this card came together and I hope you do as well.
Card Measurements & Details:
  • Soft Suede Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2"
  • Calypso Coral Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4"
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8", emboss using the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder, sponge some Crumb Cake ink around the edges
  • Harvest Meadow Designer Series Paper: 1-1/2” x 5-1/8"
  • Vellum Carstock: die cut the largest circle from Layering Circles Dies, stamp background “dot” image in Soft Suede ink and sponge some ink around the edges of the circle
  • Die cut three leaves, one from Calypso Coral Cardstock, one from Soft Suede Cardstock (brush with Wink of Stella) and one from Brushed Metallic Copper Cardstock
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: scrap to stamp sentiment in Soft Suede ink and die cut using the stitched banner from the Tasteful Labels Dies
  • Linen Thread and Brushed Metallic Adhesive Backed Dots: I also sponged some Crumb Cake ink on the Linen Thread to give a little more distressed detail
  • Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4", stamp sentiment in Soft Suede ink and leaves in Calypso Coral ink
  • Harvest Meadow Series Paper (inside card): 4” x 3/4”
Finally, a peek inside the card! I added a strip of DSP, some falling leaves from the Welcoming Woods stamp set along with the Happy Birthday sentiment. Note that strip of Basic White Cardstock the sentiment is stamped on. Well, that’s because “someone” stamped the sentiment crooked the first time. Instead of wasting the layer, I just decided to stamp it again on a cardstock scrap, sponge some ink around the edges and call it a fix. I don’t know that I love how it came out but it got the job done. Remember there are no mistakes in stamping, just opportunities for embellishments! :)

Christmas Season for PP564

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the always lovely LeAnne is hosting our Sketch Challenge.
Sketch Challenges are always my favorite! I love looking at the layout and then thinking about what stamp sets I want to use to create my card. Right before I sat down to create my card for this challenge, UPS dropped off an order from Stampin’ Up! Perfect timing, right? New stamping goodies are always wonderful for creative inspiration. As soon as I saw the Christmas Season stamp set and coordinating Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper in my box, the idea for my card was born!

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
Color Combo:
I really like the three panels on the front of the card and thought they would be great to showcase some of the beautiful Painted Christmas DSP. For whatever reason, the pinecone pattern really stuck out to me. The earthy color combo is so perfect for a holiday card with a rustic feel to it. I also added a little sparkle to the card with a small circle of Soft Succulent Shimmer Vellum behind the pinecone and also accented the darker ink on the pinecone with Wink of Stella. The Shimmer Vellum is absolutely beautiful in-person, I’ve been using it a lot lately.

Here’s a funny story. I was so excited that the layout would fit the “Merry Christmas” sentiment from my new Christmas to Remember stamp set perfectly. I wasn’t paying attention to the ink pads in front of me and stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso ink instead of Soft Suede, which was my intention. I didn’t even realize it until I went to photograph my card and thought “That sentiment looks a lot darker than the pinecone”. I think it still works because there is some Early Espresso in the DSP. It’s not that bad…I mean, I could have stamped it in orange. Now THAT would have really stuck out! Haha!
Card Measurements & Details:
  • Soft Suede Card Base: 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4"
  • Soft Sea Foam Cardstock: 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Soft Succulent Cardstock: 5-1/8” x 3-7/8”, emboss using the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder, sponge some Crumb cake ink around the edges
  • Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper: 1-1/2” x 3-1/4”, 3 pieces
  • Soft Suede Cardstock: scrap to die cut a 2” scalloped circle from the Layering Circles Dies
  • Soft Succulent Shimmer Vellum: scrap to die cut a 1-7/8” circle from the Layering Circles Dies
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: 4” x 1/2”, stamp sentiment in Early Espresso (or Soft Suede ink) and banner punch the left side using the Tailored Tag Punch
  • Basic White Cardstock: scrap to stamp the pinecone images using Crumb Cake and Soft Suede inks, die cut using the Seasonal Labels Dies and accent with Wink of Stella
  • Linen Thread and Rhinestone Basic Jewels
  • Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 5-1/4” x 4", stamp sentiment in Soft Suede ink
  • Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper (inside card): 5-1/4” x 3/4”
