Wish for it All for PP479

Happy Sunday! Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, LeAnne is our fabulous hostess for our monthly
Sketch Challenge
Check it out and play along with us!
Hooray, it’s Sketch Challenge Week! Sketch challenges are my FAVORITE challenges. It’s so fun to start with the “foundation” and build the card design around it. It’s also always fun to see how everyone interprets the sketch in their design.

So, I have to share a story about this card and how it came together. This past week, I attended a crafting retreat here in San Antonio that started Thursday afternoon and ended last night. That’’s 2-1/2 days of stamping y’all! It was so much FUN to have all of that time to create, but most importantly it was such a blessing to be able to spend time having fun with some amazing friends! I’ve shared some photos over on my Facebook Page HERE, if you’d like to check them out. While you are there be sure to “Like” my page, if you haven’t already. :)

Color Combo:
One of the things I’ve noticed with craft retreats is that it can be a little challenging because unless you are SUPER prepared (which I was not) it’s tough to know exactly what to bring. I mean, I could have packed my entire craft room since it was local for me but that’s a little too extreme. I knew I had to create a card for the challenge while I was there, so I decided to see what I could come up with. Surely in a room of over 60 stampers I could make something work, right?

This card uses the Wish for it All Bundle which I actually do not own (yet!). I borrowed it from the stamp “library” at the retreat because I thought it wold work well with the sketch. The Brights DSP I actually won in a raffle at the retreat, which was great because I wanted work with bright colors and didn’t bring any patterned paper with me that I liked for the card. As I got to creating the card, I knew what I wanted to use but lacked a few more of the supplies. Never fear, a few supply “donations” from around the conference room and I finished the job! My friend Robin had the scrap of vellum, my friend Mary Ann had the colored ink pads, my friend Nathan had the Versamark ink and Heat Tool and my new friend at the table behind me had the Embossing Buddy and the white embossing powder. My friend Erica happened to be tying some bows and when I asked her what else she though the card needed she said “How about this?” and tied a double bow for me on the spot. Talk about collaborative crafting! So much fun!
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Basic Black Card Base - 4-1/4” x 11, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Whisper White Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Brights Designer Series Paper Stack  - 3-7/8” x 1-5/8”, cut one piece from each of the following colors,  Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green

  • Whisper White Cardstock - die cut a 2-1/2” x 3-5/8” (the largest) scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies
  • On die cut rectangle, stamp the cake image by inking up the candles in Daffodil Delight ink and the cake in Bermuda Bay ink
  • Add rhinestones to the centers of the candles
  • Basic Black Cardstock - scrap to heat emboss the sentiment in White Embossing Powder and then die cut the banner using the Doily Wishes Dies

Finally, here is a peek inside the card using more stamps from the Wish for it All Bundle.

Piece of Cake for FF0053

Hello and Happy Friday! Time for a brand new Festive Friday Challenge. For #FF0053, our festivity is Girl Scout Week, which is coming up March 8th-14th. Our Inspo List features 10 items you can choose from to create your project. Incorporate THREE (or more) of the items in your project and link up to the challenge! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about Girl Scout Week – at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with some fun and interesting ideas to inspire your creativity!
My Inspo List Picks: Blue - Green - Silver - Birthday Sentiment - Cake/Candles

I decided to create a masculine-themed birthday card for this challenge using the Inspo List as a guide. As I went through the items on the list, I narrowed my creative supplies to the Country Club Designer Series Paper, the Piece of Cake stamp set with coordinating Cake Builder Punch and sentiments from the Sending You Thoughts stamp set (which you can earn for FREE with your qualifying order now during Stampin’ Up!® Sale-A-Bration)
The layout for my card was inspired by the new Mojo Monday sketch from Julie over at Poetic Artistry. I absolutely LOVE these sketches because they make my layer-loving heart happy. I do have to admit that I sometimes struggle with tilted elements on my cards, but this layout just works!
At first, I wasn’t so sure about the green cake. I colored the image using Stampin’ Blends and tried to create a color close to Garden Green with a mix of Light Old Olive and Light Mossy Meadow. It’s not “exact” but I think it works.

It’s tough to see in the photos but I also added a little Wink of Stella to the cake base, blue stripes and the candles. I decided to let my husband weigh in on the finished card. I can always tell by his initial reaction if a card gets a “thumbs up” or a “not-so-much”. As far as the green cake, his response was “I’d eat it”. He also liked the mix of colors, the plaid paper and thought the Denim Ribbon was actually an old pair of jeans. Overall, the fact that he was pretty interested in the card says it’s ok in my book. I hope you think so, too.
