Hello and Happy Sunday! Time for another weekly card challenge over at The Paper Players. This week, Sandy has a theme challenge for us: Leaves and Trees. I started out with a fall card but then when I saw the little note on the challenge graphic that Christmas trees were also welcome, my plans changed. I really NEED to make some fall cards, but I’m kind of smitten with Christmas cards right now.
Lovely as a Tree is one of those stamp sets that I think I will have in my collection forever. It is perfect for so many occasions and not only can you make some beautiful fall and holiday cards with it, it is perfect for masculine cards too. I wanted to make a rustic Christmas card so I immediately grabbed the Buffalo Check Background stamp. This is a stamp that really is a great accent in ANY color, but I decided on the traditional red (Cherry Cobbler) and black.
For added texture, I embossed the Crumb Cake Layer with the Pinewood Planks Embossing folder and then distressed (using a sponge) around all of the Crumb Cake edges with black ink. I finished it off with a Linen Thread triple-bow, a True Gentleman Button and then colored some pearls with my Dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends Marker. Since they are alcohol-based, they are perfect to create rhinestones and pearls in any color your heart desires!
It is tough to see in the photos, but I did go over the tips of the branches along with the base of the tree with Clear Wink of Stella for a little pop of “frost” on the tree. I think it’s a cozy card and if it weren’t 90 degrees here, it would inspire me to bundle up in a big, fuzzy blanket and sweater. If cooler temps have arrived in your neck of the woods, I’m very jealous of you. We still have a little while to go here...
