Amazing Life for FF0033

Hello there stamping friends! Wow, it’s Friday already? Where did this week go? I feel like I blinked and this week passed me by. Well, here we are and that means it’s time for another fun challenge over at Festive Friday

Have you ever played along with the Festive Friday challenges? Every other Friday, we share a new theme where we celebrate an upcoming holiday with a little somethin’ somethin’ extra. What is really fun about the challenges is that you can create your project for the occasion, the added theme/color OR mash them up together and create a project for BOTH.
This week, I’m sharing a card I created for a friend who will actually be retiring from the Air Force this month. Perfect timing! I figured this would work for some inspiration for Armed Forces Day (you could always change the sentiment) and I also made sure to sneak the stripes in as well.

For those of you who may be new to my blog, my husband retired from the Air Force a couple of years ago. We have been blessed to meet so many amazing people during his military career. I’m so excited to share this card with our dear friends as they embark on this new chapter of their lives.
When I started creating this card, I instantly knew I wanted to use the Best Route Designer Series Paper. I bought the paper many months ago and have only used it once. *gasp* I remembered that it had a fun airplane pattern and thought it would be perfect for this retirement card. I was a little nervous about the bright color combo at first, but tried to use those colors in “pops” while keeping the main color Blueberry Bushel, as it worked well for for an Air Force card.

 Today’s Colors:

I actually never bought the stamp set or any of the other accessories in the Best Route suite, just the DSP. I wanted to, I just never ordered them. I have no idea why. So, I had to look through my stamp sets to see what I could use to pair up with this fun paper. As we are coming up on a new Stampin’ Up!® catalog in June, I’m really trying to get the most use out of stamp sets that will sadly be retiring. I thought the sentiment from the Amazing Life stamp set was PERFECT. I stamped it in Blueberry Bushel ink and then colored in the letters with the Dark Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends Marker.
When it came to that stacked sentiment, I might have been a little generous with the layers. Shocking, I know. I couldn’t really add flowers or anything frilly, so a stack of shapes fit the bill. I started with a Stitched Shapes square in Silver Foil, then added a Stitched Rectangle in Blueberry Bushel, a little pop of Silver Metallic Thread, then a banner using the Banners for You stamps and dies, topped with the sentiment on a Stitched Shapes circle.

The Banners for You stamp set and Bunch of Banners dies are also going to be retiring soon. So, if you love them, scoop them up now. I actually use both the stamps and dies a LOT!!

Card Measurements:

  • Blueberry Bushel Card Base - 4-1/4” x 11”, score at 5-1/2”
  • Pineapple Punch Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Best Route Designer Series Paper (polka dot) - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Best Route Designer Series Paper (stripes) - 1-3/4” x 4-3/4”
  • Best Route Designer Series Paper (planes) - 1-1/2” x 4-1/2”
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside card) - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Best Route Designer Series Paper (inside card) - 1-1/4” x 4”
Finally, a quick peek at the inside of the card. I used a little more of that awesome airplane paper and added a sentiment from the Well Said stamp set. I thought it would be perfect to celebrate the "new adventure" with his retirement.
