Perennial Masculine Birthday for PP451

It’s Sunday and time for another fun challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, Ann has a fab Clean-and-Simple (CAS) Masculine Theme Challenge for us.
I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS need more masculine cards in my card stash. I never seem to have enough when I need them so this challenge came at the perfect time. Please join us and share a project this week. We’d love to see what you create!

 Today’s Colors:

The inspiration for my card actually came from a very similar card I created for a swap a few months ago. That card had a lot more distressed detail so it was kind of fun to recreate a similar card by cleaning it up a bit for this challenge. No sponging, no rough edges. So what is a Clean-and Simple (CAS) card? Here are our guidelines for the challenge:

Minimal layers and embellishments
Plenty of open space, aka "white" space
Simple and uncluttered

Full disclosure, this IS minimal layers for me. It’s a bit of a joke amongst some of my pals on the Design Team that I struggle HARD with that aspect of CAS week. I suppose I could have left off the Very Vanilla Cardstock layer but since it’s already there, I’ll just go ahead and leave it. Haha!
The card is pretty simple overall. I based the card around the wood grain pattern in the Pressed Petals Designer Series Paper with a very neutral color combo. I used the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder to add a little more texture to the background, but could have also left off that step to make it even more CAS. I went with a big, bold sentiment accented with 2 die-cut leaves from the Seasonal Layers Dies. They are accented with a simple Metallic Brad and finished with a Linen Thread bow. I also used the Corrugated Embossing folder for some added texture on the leaf and layered circle. Again, the embossing could be skipped altogether for a more simplified look.

Card Measurements:

  • Early Espresso Card Base - 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock - 4" x 5-1/4”
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock (Embossed with Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder) - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper (inched with Banner triple Punch) - 1-1/2” x 4-7/8”
  • Scraps of Early Espresso, Mossy Meadow and Very Vanilla Cardstock for die cut shapes
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock (inside card) - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper (inside card) - 1/2” x 5-1/4”
Finally, here a look inside the card. I kept it simple with a coordinating sentiment and an extra strip of the wood patterned paper. I did stamp the sentiments in Soft Suede ink as opposed to Early Espresso, which seemed a wee bit TOO dark on the card.

I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your CAS project using this week’s Masculine Theme. We’d love to see what you come up with! You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday July 26th, 2019.
