The Raven for FF0042

Hello everyone! It’s time for a fun new challenge over at Festive Friday! We’ve made a few changes to the challenge this week and I think they are great.

Basically, we will be focusing the bi-weekly challenges around a fun “festivity” and providing you an Inspo List with elements inspired by the festivity. The Inspo List is a list of 10 items you can choose from to create your project. Incorporate THREE (or more) of the items in your project and link up with us! The project can be for any occasion. You can find more info and challenge rules HERE. Please join us!
For my project, I featured the following elements from the list:  Flag/Pennant - Black - Gold - Birds - Rhinestones/Pearls.

Then, I used those elements to create a Halloween card featuring a new stamp set from the Stampin’ Up!® Holiday Catalog: The Raven. This set is really fun. it’s a little spooky but not TOO creepy, which I think is a fun mix for a Halloween card.

Today’s Colors:

I used the "Black Ice Technique" to give a spooky-finish to this little raven. This technique has been around for a while and you can always use Google to search for more information about it. It adds a really cool distressed look to foil paper. You will need the following supplies: Foil Paper, Staz-On ink, a Heat Tool, Versamark Ink and Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

Black Ice Technique:
  1. Use a small amount of SNAIL adhesive to lightly adhere Gold Foil Paper to a piece of scrap paper
  2. Use Staz-On ink to stamp the raven and branch images on Gold Foil Paper
  3. Use Heat tool to completely dry the inked images before continuing
  4. Let cool completely
  5. Use Staz-On ink pad and drag ink pad in one stroke from top to bottom of Gold Foil, repeat additional strokes from left to right to cover the entire piece
  6. Use Heat Tool to completely dry the ink before continuing
  7. Let cool completely
  8. Use Versamark Ink pad and drag ink pad in single strokes from top to bottom of Gold Foil (just like step 4)
  9. Sprinkle Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder all over the entire piece of Gold Foil
  10. Use Heat Tool to set Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder
  11. Let cool completely
I just love the finished look, don’t you? If you’d like a little more distressing around the edges, you can use a sponge to add in a little more ink, too.

It’s a little tough to see in the photos, but also added some sparkle to the embossed background. I did this by mixing a few drops of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint with some rubbing alcohol in a Stampin' Spritzer. It’s really sparkly in-person!
To add a little distressed detail to the embossed pieces, I took the Tuxedo Black Momento Ink Pad and ran it over one side of my embossing folder. *Do NOT use Staz-On ink for this! Then add your cardstock and run it through your die cutting machine. It adds a a cool distressed look which just compliments the spooky-vibe of the card. To clean your embossing folders, simply run them under water and let them dry. Easy, peasy!
Stampin’ Blends Markers are great for making custom colored ribbon and rhinestones! It’s a great way to add more versatility to your supplies. Just make sure to protect your work surface when coloring the ribbon and give them a little time to dry completely.
