Bee Birthday Wishes for PP550

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the lovely LeAnne is hosting our monthly Clean-and-Simple (CAS) Challenge.
In addition to the CAS challenge this week, we have a fun bee theme to play along with. I instantly knew the colors I wanted to use on my card. I mean, if it’s a bee theme, I just had to use Bumblebee Cardstock on my project. I had my colors, now I had to figure out if I had a bee somewhere in my stamp studio. Hmmm...

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
So, here is a fun fact. there is not one bee stamp in the current Stampin’ Up!® catalog. Believe me, I looked. (Edited to add: there actually is ONE little bee in the Garden Wishes set, I completely missed it in the catalog!) The new Iconic Dies have a bee and here are also some little Bumblebee Trinket embellishments but I don’t have either of them (yet). I generally don’t use retired products on my blog, but since this challenge was so specific, I went in to the archives and found the *retired* Honey Bee stamp set and coordinating Bee Dies. This bundle was available last year in the Spring but I figured even if someone wanted to re-create this card, it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to locate a little bee sticker, die or accent to add.

After I located the bee image, I decided to pair him up with the fun sentiment from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set. If you have visited me before, you know I love a good “punny” sentiment. I also added the fun stitched border from the Stitched With Whimsy Dies. I added some Wink of Stella to the bees wings which is tough to see in the photo but adds a fun detail.
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Bumblebee Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Basic Black Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Basic White Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, dies cut the stitched detail using the second largest frame from the Stitched with Whimsy Dies
  • Pattern Party Designer Series Paper (Host exclusive): die cut a 2-3/8” circle from the Layering Circles dies
  • Bumblebee Cardstock: scrap to stamp the “Happy B-Day” sentiment in Momento ink, then cut around the image using Paper Snips.
  • Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Pattern Party Designer Series Paper (host exclusive, inside card):3/4” x 5-1/4”
Finally, a peek inside the card! I stamped the sentiment from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set along with a little strip of the DSP. I also added one more little bee as an accent to “keep the party going” from the front of the card.

I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project for our  Clean-and-Simple (CAS) Challenge. We’d love to see what you come up with using this fun “Let’s Bee Friends” Theme. You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday July 23rd, 2021

  1. Such a sweet fun card, Anne Marie, and that sentiment is PERFECT! Debbie says there is a bee image in Garden Wishes...just in case you decide you "need" a bee for your stamping collection!

  3. I had to search out a bee in my stash as well! All retired stuff gets put into my annual BOGO sale so the bees are long gone! I was lucky to find a few scraps of the bee paper lol! I love the sentiment and the fun inside of the card! Hope you have a great week!

  4. This is wonderful, Anne Marie! I like the way you've framed it and the polka dots!

  5. I was surprised to read that there isn't one bee in the new catalogue. Seems a bit odd especially when you can just stick one in a floral set. As for your adorable card, I am loving the polka dotted paper as your focal point of your CAS design. The wonky stitching of the die almost mimics the path the bee would have taken before he landed. Great job! Have a wonderful day!

  6. Your card turned out great. How odd that there aren't any bee stamps in the SU catalog. - Glad you decided to use the retired set. I like the Whimsy Die and the Polka dot paper paired with your puny sentiment and bee.

  7. Anne Marie, this is fabulous! I love the layers in the background, yet your card is very CAS! The whimsy die is just perfect for your background! Your little bee and puny sentiment are perfect! Enjoy the rest of the week!

  10. Yes, bees are in short supply in the annual catalogue for sure Anne Marie but this is an oldie-but-goodie that lots of us have and I love how you combined him with your chosen sentiment - I will confess I am going to borrow this idea!! Great card!

  11. Fabulous card, Anne Marie. I love the polka dot paper that grounds your focal images. The embossing is perfect to frame your card and I love that you die-cut a bee for the inside, too. Wonderful card, my friend
