Hats Off Fishing Adventure for PP554

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, I am super-excited to be hosting our monthly Clean-and-Simple (CAS) Challenge.
Clean-and-Simple is week is always a little bit of a challenge for my layer-loving heart, so I do my best. However, I always seem to need masculine cards so I thought it would make for a fun theme to get some great ideas.

As I was looking through my stamps for this challenge, I decided that the Hats Off stamp set would be great for this challenge. I pulled out the coordinating Hat Builder Dies, saw the little fish die in the set and decided to create my card for the challenge around that.

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
When I was younger, I remember going out to the family camp and fishing on the lake. Although to be honest, my fishing expertise did not include anything more than casting a rod and reeling the fish in. I left the bait and anything having to do with the hooks to the more qualified and less squeamish family members on the boat. I remember at the end of the afternoon bringing the “catch of the day” back to the house on a stringer. (I think that’s what it is called…let me know if there is a different name for it.) That was what I was trying to recreate for this card.

On my quest for masculine-themed paper, I realized that I’m lacking and really need to buy more. Then I remembered the awesome new Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper that I earned for FREE this month during Stampin’ Up!® Sale-A-Bration that had the fun tree pattern. (More info on Sale-A-Bration toward the end of this post.)

I decided to add some shine to the fish by heat embossing them with Versamark ink and clear embossing powder. Then I added some Linen Thread behind each fish to create the “stringer”. I initially tied a bow using the Linen Thread at the top and it just didn’t look “right”. So, I decided to tie a double know using the gingham ribbon because it coordinated so well with the trees. I ended up using a little more of the DSP than I initially intended because I liked how it looked. I’ll just call that part “CAS-ish”. Overall, I like how this card came out and I hope you do as well.
Card Measurements & Details:

Finally, a peek inside the card! I stamped a coordinating sentiment and a trio of stars. I also added a little strip of the DSP with a row of those cute trees to coordinate with the front of the card. This card could be used for graduation, retirement, a job promotion or even a move.
