Seascape for PP552

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the lovely Joanne is hosting our monthly Theme Challenge.
Look at that beautiful graphic full of inspiration for this “Beside the Seaside” challenge! Being anywhere near the water is my “happy place”. Whether it’s the ocean, a lake, a river or even a pool, there is something about being close to the water that is just so relaxing. When I saw the theme, I was immediately inspired to use the Seascape stamp set and coordinating Sea Life Dies to create a fun little underwater scene.

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
I just love that adorable seahorse die in the Sea Life Dies! He really creates such a beautiful focal image on a card. To really make him stand out, I used the alcohol ink technique to create a gorgeous background with lots of blue and green hues. There are also drops of Wink of Stella on the background and also accenting the seahorse for added sparkle. The metallic pearls and metallic baker’s twine were the perfect finishing touches!

To create these beautiful backgrounds, you need Vellum Cardstock, Stampin’ Blends markers, Water Painters, Wink of Stella and some rubbing alcohol (has to be at least 91%, anything less will not work with this technique). I’ll be sharing how to create these backgrounds over on my Facebook Live video this week, so be sure to follow my page HERE.

***Edited to add: You can watch my Facebook Live Video to see this background technique, here: “Alcohol Ink Seascape Facebook Live"
Creating these beautiful backgrounds alcohol ink backgrounds is so much fun! There are so many color combos to try and no two backgrounds come out the same. Here are just a few of the other backgrounds I created.
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Misty Moonlight Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Basic White Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Vellum Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, created the background using Balmy Blue, Shaded Spruce, Mist Moonlight and Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends with the alcohol ink technique
  • Misty Moonlight Cardstock: scrap to die cut the seahorse (I also traced the seahorse image on a scrap Vellum Cardstock and fussy cut around the image to add a velum layer behind the Misty Moonlight layer, then accented the seahorse with Wink of Stella.)
  • Just Jade Cardstock: scrap to die cut two pieces of the coral
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 1-1/4”, cut a “slope” as shown, stamp the sand in Crumb Cake ink, then emboss using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder
  • Basic White Cardstock: scrap to stamp the sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink, then die cut using the 1-7/8” circle from the Layering Circles Dies
  • Metallic Pearls and twine from the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack
  • Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4”, stamp sentiment in Crumb Cake ink, Fisk in Misty Moonlight ink and seaweed in Just Jade ink
Finally, a peek inside the card! I simply stamped an encouraging sentiment along with some seaweed and a trio of fish to keep the seaside party going from the front of the card.

I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project for our  Theme Challenge. We’d love to see what you come up with using this fun “Beside the Seaside” theme. You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday August 6th, 2021
