Hello Stamping Friends! Today, I’m super-excited to share the March 2022 Stamping Sunday Blog Hop. This hop is hosted by Sara Levin and we share on the second Sunday of every month. Our theme for the month is “RIBBON”.
For this blog hop, we were to create two cards featuring ribbon as part of the design. There are so many different styles of ribbon in the Stampin’ Up! catalogs, it was tough to decide what to do for this theme. For some reason, as I was perusing my stamp sets, I decided that I wanted to use the Cactus Cuties stamp set and coordinating Cactus Builder Punch for my cards. That was the easy part…now to pick the ribbons.
All of the measurements for my project are listed below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this blog post.
For my first project, I wanted to share a fun and easy way to use lots of different ribbons to create a cool background. I had a bunch of ribbon scraps sitting in a bin on my desk in some of the 2021-2023 In Colors (Polished Pink - Pale Papaya - Soft Succulent - Evening Evergreen - Fresh Freesia) and it dawned on me that these colors would work really well with the Cactus Cuties Bundle.
I kept the layout of the card pretty simple, added some texture to the Basic White Cardstock layer and simply added a strip of each of the In Color Open Weave Ribbons to bring all of the colors together on the card along with adding a little texture and direction to the background. This is an easy way to use up little pieces of ribbon that are laying around your craft room. I know I’m not the only one who has them. Haha! In this case, I used all the same style of ribbon, but I also think this would be a cool background with different textures and widths of ribbons, too.
Card Measurements & Details:
- Polished Pink Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
- Evening Evergreen Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”
- Basic White Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, emboss with Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder
- Open Weave Ribbon: 4-1/2” each in Polished Pink, Pale Papaya, Soft Succulent, Evening Evergreen and Fresh Freesia
- Evening Evergreen Cardstock: 2-5/8” x 3-7/8”, die cut the third largest scalloped rectangle from the Scalloped Contours Dies
- Basic White Cardstock: 2” x 3-5/16”, stamp sentiment in Evening Evergreen ink in top right corner
- Basic White Cardstock: scraps to stamp succulents and pots, then punch and fussy-cut
- Polished Pink Cardstock: scrap to punch out three small flowers using Cactus Builder Punch. Accent flowers with Wink Stella for added sparkle.
- 2021-2023 In Color Jewels - Soft Succulent
For my second card, I continued using the Cactus Cuties Bundle but wanted to add a big, fluffy ribbon as an accent. The In Color Open Weave Ribbon is just one of those ribbons that seems to tie beautifully all the time! So I decided to tie a double bow and fluff it up.
I have to laugh because every time I go to get my hair done, my stylist Jeffrey (who is amazing by the way) always asks “Is this TOO much volume?” and I always say “You can never have TOO much volume.” That’s how I feel about this puffy bow. Also, I live in Texas, so we like to do things BIG. Is it going to bulk up your envelope and require another stamp to mail? Probably. For that reason. I also decided to add another bow using Linen Thread. If you are going to add an extra stamp to your card, make it count!
