Party this Way with Our Creative Corner!

Hello and Happy Saturday to you! This week at Our Creative Corner, the lovely Sharon Wheet is our hostess and she is ready to party, with a fun theme challenge:

"We challenge you to make a paper craft item for a party!  Any kind of party: birthday celebrations, an afternoon BBQ, a summer evening soiree, a beautiful wedding ceremony, or an elegant dinner.  Just make your paper craft item related to your party: an invitation, a party favor, some decorations, a hostess 'thank you' gift/card, etc.  All we ask is that you have fun, be creative, and share your creativity with us!"
I created a birthday card, which could also easily be used for a party invitation. Simply add the party info to the inside of the card and there you have it. I got some inspiration from the gorgeous color combo from the Stampin' Royalty Challenge this week.
The layout for this card, isn't new. I made THIS CARD not too long ago, with the same sketch and it has always been in the book of "favorite layouts". I have to admit, I was stumped as to where to start for this challenge and while out shopping Wednesday for a birthday gift, I had this random idea to make dressed-up party hats. So that was my starting point.

I heat embossed three pennants from the Pennant Parade stamp set (punched them out) and then trimmed them down from their original size, so they would fit in the punched squares. I popped on some puffy pom-poms that I found in my crafting stash. Don't even remember when I bought them...don't you hate when that happens? Finally, because I am not known to hold back on the bling, I added some sparkly trim as a finishing touch. I added some embossing, ribbon and die cut trim for added detail. All of the supplies used are listed at the end of the post, if you are interested.
A quick shot of the inside of the card. I decided to go with a birthday card, over an invitation because I needed to make one for the friend I was buying the gift for:

PP#98 -Summertime BBQ

Hi there! It's Sunday and time for another challenge over at the Paper Players. This week, the lovely Jaydee is out hostess with a sweet summer theme challenge to play along with. It's getting H-O-T out there...goodness knows we are nice and toasty already down here in South Texas. This week, the Players want to see you what you can create for some hot fun in the summertime. Be sure to check out the Paper Players site for the rules of our challenge.
If there is one thing that Texans know how to do well in the summer, (or any time of the year, really) it is BBQ. We are actually throwing a big ol' BBQ next month. So, my inspiration for this challenge came from getting a head start on the invitations for the party. I used the On the Grill stamp set (ret.) and the Pawsitively Prints DSP (also ret.) for these. The new SU! catalog just launched yesterday and I thought it would be a good thing to use up some of my stash before the brand-new goods arrived at my doorstep.
It is tough to see in the photos but the sentiment is actually heat embossed for some added shine. That punched drink in the middle is a "cherry limeade"...any fans of Sonic out there? Mmmm! I sponged some Pool Party ink around the BBQ image to make it pop a bit more, I also popped up all of the layers, punched accents and the main image for some added interest...while still allowing the invite to fit in an envelope to mail. I have over 20 of these going out, so that will be helpful for postage. The inside of the card has all of the details for the BBQ, including our address, date and time of the event and R.S.V.P. info. Sure I could have sent an Evite but these were WAY more fun! All of the supplies are listed at the end of this post.

Before I go, here is a quick shot of my boys from Memorial Day weekend. Don't they look cute in their patriotic bandana's?

Please join us this week over at the Paper Players to share your project celebrating summer! The challenge is open until Friday, June 8th at Noon (PST). Be sure to visit the rest of the gals on the Design Team to see what they have whipped up this week for the challenge:
