Hello there and Happy Sunday! Time for another weekly challenge over at The Paper Players. This week, the fabulous Joanne has an awesome color combo for us. I hope you
will join us!
It’s no secret that bright and cheery colors are my favorite colors, so I couldn’t wait to play with this combo. I just couldn’t decide on a stamp set to use. This color combo reminds me of summer, so The Tropical Chic stamp set seemed like a good choice.
I struggled a bit to work in the Pool Party color on this card. It didn’t work for leaves, flowers or any of the layers. So, I decided to work it onto a watercolor washed background. It’s very subtle but I think it adds a nice detail. Instead of using regular Whisper White Cardstock, I subbed Shimmer White Cardstock. Not only does it add a beautiful shimmery detail, it is great to use for water coloring. The watercolor wash comes together really easily using an ink pad and an Aquapainter. You just “smoosh” (yes, that’s a technical term) your closed ink pad to get some ink onto the top inside cover of the ink pad. Then, you just use your Aquapainter to pick up the ink and then watercolor your background by brushing the color and water in “swipes” across the Shimmer White Cardstock. Just make sure you don’t squeeze TOO much water into your Aquapainter, then you lose a lot of control of the color. Make sure you allow time for the Shimmer White Cardstock to dry before assembling your card.
I also added some Wink of Stella Glitter brush to the center of the flowers. It’s tough to see the Shimmer White Cardstock in the photos but the Wink of Stella is a nice compliment to that subtle shimmer. I also popped in a velum leaf for some added texture without adding more color. The sentiment was stamped on a 3/4” piece of Shimmer White Cardstock. I just trimmed off the ends at an angle with a my Paper Snips and popped it up. Easy Peasy!
- Lovely Lipstick Card Base - 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
- Granny Apple Green Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
- 2018-2020 In Color Designer Series Paper - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
- Lovely Lipstick Cardstock - 3-3/8" x 4-5/8”
- Shimmer White Cardstock (for watercolor background) - 3-1/4” x 4-1//2
Finally here is a peek at the inside of the card. I added a 4” x 5-1/4” piece of Whisper White cardstock with a 1” x 4” strip of DSP for a pop of patterns. I just added a couple of stamped images and left space for a handwritten message.
I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share a project using this beautiful color combo. We’d love to see what you come up with! You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday May 17th, 2019.
