Waterfront for PP444

Hello and happy Sunday stamping friends! It’s time for another weekly challenge over at The Paper Players. This week, the lovely Ann is hosting with a perfectly timed theme challenge: Summer Vacation! I’m sorry my post is a little bit late today. I had a really busy week last week and unfortunately time got away from me and I really just ended up needing a few more hours in the day. I’m trying to focus on getting caught up today. Whew!
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a little vacation right now. I wouldn’t mind sitting in a chair on the beach soaking up the sun and listening to the waves. That was the inspiration for my card this week. Unfortunately the actual trip to the beach has to wait until next month.

For my card, I decided to use the Waterfront Stamp set paired with some of the elements from the Seasonal Layers Dies. That little beach chair and the scalloped trim really get a LOT of use in my stamp studio, that’s for sure.

Today’s Colors:

Originally I was going to stamp the beach and water using the elements in the stamp set, and then decided that it might be fun to do a little water coloring with ink and an AquaPainter instead. I love water coloring and don’t do it nearly as often as I’d like.

I started out cutting an oval from the Layering Oval Dies in Shimmer White Cardstock (if you don’t have Shimmer White, you can also use Watercolor Paper) for the water coloring. Using my AquaPainter, I started out using Crumb Cake Ink to add some shading to the “sand", then added Coastal Cabana Ink where the “water” began. I gradually added more ink to darken the color as the water moved out further on the scene. Once the water coloring was completely dry, I added the stamped detail to the sand and also the little palm trees.
Next, I added  some texture with the Seaside Embossing Folder and the Burlap Trim. For the sentiment, I thought it would be fun to punch it out of a 1-1/4” Circle in Mango Melody Cardstock to add some “sunshine” to the beach scene.

For a final touch, I popped on a trio of Glitter Enamel Dots. They kind of made me think of little water droplets. I like how it all came together and I hope you do as well.

Card Measurements:
  • Bermuda Bay Card Base - 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Whisper White Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Coastal Cabana Cardstock (embossed with Seaside Embossing Folder) - 3-3/4” x 5”
  • Brights Designer Series Paper - 1-1/2” x 5”

  • Brights DSP (inside card)  - 3/4” x 5-1/4”
Finally, here is a peek inside the card, dressed up with more of the DSP and a couple stamped images. I left it bank to write a handwritten note.
