Hello there and Happy Sunday to you!
This week over at The Paper Players, Laurie is our hostess with a theme challenge
perfect for the summer season:
Water Sports
This theme can really mean anything having to do with being out on the water, from boating, to fishing, to tubing on the river or simply sitting on the beach. There are lots of creative ways to interpret this challenge. I hope you are inspired to play along this week!
Today’s Colors:
For my card, I decided to use the Stampin’ Up!® Sailing Home Bundle to create a fun congratulations card. I put together a little “sailboat race” scene on my card with one of the boats clearly forging ahead of the others. I really wanted to showcase the different patterns of the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper that coordinates with this stamp set. I just love the nautical prints and as I was cutting the layer that features the text, I noticed the headline “The Racing at Aqueduct” and it just fit perfectly with my little scene. I love when little details like that just work themselves out!
Speaking of details, there are lots of them on this card. I layered the sentiment using the banner and the wheel from the Smooth Sailing Dies and then popped a little Stitched Shapes circle behind them for some added dimension. I also added a little sailor’s knot to the baker’s twine. There navy and white striped DSP reminded me of the texture of denim, so I popped in a small accent of the 3/8” Denim Ribbon on the top corner.
The stamped and die cut sailboats are shaded with Stampin’ Blends markers and then I took the Wink of Stella Glitter brush to add some shimmery detail to the sails and the water. It’s tough to see in the photos but has a nice pop of sparkle in-person. Finally, I added a little trio of Epoxy Droplets to the top right corner. I thought they kept the “water” theme afloat on the card. Afloat, get it? Ok, ok...no more silly water puns, I promise.

ReplyDeleteAnne Marie, I love all the texture and layers on your card! The DSP's are perfect and a great backdrop for your sailboats! You certainly rocked this challenge, My Friend! XX
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!!! I am partial to nautical cards and yours is just perfect. Sailing is such a fun water sport too!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this Anne Marie! So many fab details on this nautical card. A wonderful showcase of these papers but the ship's wheel behind the sentiment and the title detail on the paper are my favourites and set off your boat race perfectly! It reminds me of Henley Regatta, which is a big boat race that takes place here in the UK each summer. Fabulous!
ReplyDeletelove your card Anne! how do you do the sailors knot?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Karla! If you Google "sailor's knot" you should be able to find a few different tutorials to demonstrate how to tie it. It's really pretty easy!
DeleteAnne Marie, you really showcased how beautiful this set is. I love the fact that you added the twine as well and those DSPs work beautifully together. Fabulous card
