July 2020 - Third Thursdays Blog Hop

Welcome once again to our Third Thursdays Blog Hop! This month, our theme for the hop is Christmas in July. It’s a great time to start working on those Christmas projects, especially cards. It’s kind of hard to believe that we are mid-way through July and the holidays will be here before we know it!

I’ve listed all of the hoppers toward the end of the post, so make sure you stop by and see what everyone has to share today!
The temps have been over 100 degrees here this week, so it was kind of nice to crank up the air conditioner, put on some holiday tunes and make my first Christmas card of 2020! There are SO many awesome holiday stamp sets available in the Stampin’ Up Annual Catalog right now. I used a set I bought a while back and have never used: Peaceful Boughs. This Beautiful Boughs Dies coordinate with this stamp set to create beautiful projects featuring pinecones and pine branches. I especially love the sentiment in this set. I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for this card below, along with a full supply list at the very end of this blog post.

Color Combo:
I have to admit, I tend to shy away from the traditional red and green Christmas color combo, but for some reason it just felt right for this card. It has a very “woodsy” feel to it, don’t you think? To keep with that theme, I added a strip of Cherry Cobbler cardstock to the cards tamped with the Buffalo Check background stamp. I didn’t have any patterned paper that felt like it worked on the card, so I made my own.

As I mentioned, there are so many awesome holiday products in the Annual Catalog right now. If you are like me and love both the fall and winter seasons, the new August - December Mini Catalog will be launching on August 4th. I used one little “sneak peek” from that catalog on my card, the Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder. It added great texture to the background. Also, the little Jingle Bells will be making a comeback in the upcoming catalog. They do add a lot of extra bulk to a card though, so I’d probably have to mail this in a bubble mailer. They are great accents for 3D projects though and they really jingle, which is fun!
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Cherry Cobbler Card Base - 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, embossed with Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder (available August 4th in the new August - December Mini Catalog)
  • Cherry Cobbler Cardstock - 1-3/4” x 5-1/8”, stamp with Buffalo Check background stamp in Cherry Cobbler ink and then spritz with a mixture of a few drops of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint and rubbing alcohol (70% or less) in a Stampin’ Spritzer bottle
  • Cherry Cobbler Cardstock - scrap to stamp sentiment in Versamark ink, heat emboss with White Stampin’ Emboss powder and die cut using Beautiful Boughs Dies
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock - scrap to die cut three of the small, full pinecones from Peaceful Boughs Dies
  • Gold Foil Sheets - die cut three small detailed pinecones from Peaceful Boughs Dies
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock - scrap to die cut two of the single pine images and one of the trio of pine images from Peaceful Boughs Dies
  • Linen Thread, Jingle bell and Gold Glitter Enamel Dots
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside card) - 4” x 5-1/4”
Finally a peek inside the card. I stamped a coordinating sentiment and a couple of the pine images to add some extra color and interest.

  5. Anne Marie - When the temp is 109 degrees, which is what it is supposed to be here... I am certainly not thinking Christmas. BUT... your gorgeous card put me right in the mood for it. The white embossed sentiment and white layer just pop the colors. Just gorgeous!!!
