This week, Ann is hosting our Color Challenge.
These colors are so perfect to celebrate the fall season, right? As soon as I saw them my mind immediately went to leaves and pumpkins. However, I wanted to challenge myself a little with the colors and try something a little different. So, I decided to use the Nothing’s Better Than Bundle for a retro-themed coffee card.
*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below, along with a full supply list at the very end of this post.
The Nothing’s Better Than stamp set and coordinating Love You More Than Dies are so fun and perfect to make projects for anyone who enjoys coffee, chocolate, cookies and cocktails! The font and images are very “retro” and I thought it would be kind of fun to do a little “scrappy strip” background to play off that, while showcasing the challenge colors.
I originally saw this background technique from fellow demonstrator Kylie Bertucci and I actually featured these projects over on my weekly Facebook Live Video if you’d like to see a tutorial of how easy it is to put together. This is an awesome way to use up those cardstock scraps we all have hanging around our craft rooms.
Card Measurements and Details:
- Mossy Meadow Card Base - 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, score at 4 1/4”
- Basic Black Cardstock - 5 1/4” x 4”
- Cajun Craze Cardstock - 5 1/8” x 3 7/8”, embossed with Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder
- Basic Black Cardstock - 4 5/8” x 3 5/8”
- Cinnamon Cider Cardstock - start with a piece that is 5” x 4”, add the scrappy strips, then trim the piece down to 4 1/2” x 3 1/2”
- Scraps of Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Mossy Meadow Cardstock for “scrappy strip” background
- Whisper White Cardstock - scrap to die cut frame from Hippo and Friends Dies and to stamp and die cut three coffee cup images, color images with Stampin’ Blends
- Cinnamon Cider Cardstock - scrap to die cut the word “Coffee” from the Love you More Than Dies
- Metallic Ribbon and Rhinestone Basic Jewels colored with Cinnamon Cider Stampin' Blends
- Whisper White Cardstock (inside card) - 5 1/4” x 4”, add some extra strips of cardstock and stamped images
Here is a look inside the card where I popped in the quartet of challenge colors using more of the “scrappy strips” from the front of the card. Then I simply stamped a coordinating sentiment and added another coffee cup to keep the party going from the front of the card. The more coffee the merrier, right?
This week, I also created an easy coordinating treat holder to use up even more of those card scraps. Check out my Facebook Live video for more details: click to WATCH HERE.
Treat Holder Measurements and Details:
- Mossy Meadow Cardstock - 2” x 8 1/4”, score at 4” and 4 1/4”, punch either end with Scalloped Tag Topper Punch
- Basic Black Cardstock - 1 3/4” x 3”
- Cinnamon Cider Cardstock - 1 5/8” x 2 7/8”
- Scraps of Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Mossy Meadow Cardstock for “scrappy strip” background
- Whisper White Cardstock - scrap to die cut frame from Hippo and Friends Dies and to stamp and die cut one coffee cup image
- Cinnamon Cider Cardstock - scrap to die cut the word “Coffee” from the Love you More Than Dies
- Cinnamon Cider Ribbon - tie treat holder closed
I made this treat holder to fit a little coffee-flavored treat from our local grocery store here in Texas (HEB), however this little holder also fits a Ghirardelli chocolate square just as well. Just add one Stampin’ Dimensional to the back of the treat and it stays in place in the holder. This is a quick and easy treat holder, perfect for any occasion.
I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project for our Color Challenge. We’d love to see what you come up with! You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday October 16th, 2020.
