Butterfly Beauty for PP531

Happy Sunday!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, Claire is hosting our monthly Theme Challenge.
Spring is such a beautiful season! although our winter here in South Texas is not as long as what many others experience, it’s always nice to see everything starting to bloom once again. As soon as I saw the challenge, I decided to create a card with of my favorites, the Beauty Abounds stamp set and coordinating Butterfly Beauty Dies. I just love those big, bold butterflies!

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
Color Combo:
This card came together pretty easily as the butterflies really steal the show! I added a layer of Blushing Bride foil (from the Love You Always Foil Sheets) to really make the butterflies stand out. I also used the Blending Brushes and the “sandy” stamp in the set to create a watercolor wash background. I thought the little border from the Stitched with Whimsy Dies added a fun touch without the need for lots of extra layers.

Since the butterflies are pretty detailed, they can be a little tricky to adhere together. I used small dots of liquid glue but you do have to be careful not to use too much or it can get messy on the foil. I also popped up the layered butterfly with Mini Stampin Dimensionals. I love how this card came out and I hope you do as well. :)
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Blushing Bride Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Basic White Cardstock: cut slightly larger than 4” x 5-1/4”,die cut border with Stitched with Whimsy Dies, sponge So Saffron background using a Blending Brush and then randomly stamp some texture using the “sandy” stamp in the Beauty Abounds stamp set
  • Blushing Bride Cardstock: die cut the butterfly background using Butterfly Beauty Dies
  • Love You always Foil Sheets (Blushing Bride): die cut the detailed butterflies using Butterfly Beauty Dies
  • Layer the butterflies together and snip off the butterfly on the bottom right to allow room for the punched sentiment.
  • Basic White Cardstock: scrap to stamp sentiment in Blushing Bride ink, then punch out using Story Label Punch
  • Soft Sea Foam Cardstock: scrap to die cut three leafy sprigs from Butterfly Beauty Dies, accent with Wink of Stella
  • Snail Mail Twine Combo Pack (Blushing Bride) and Champagne Rhinestones
  • Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4”
Finally a peek inside the card! I used the textured stamp to create a little So Saffron “sandy” border along the left side. Next, I stamped the floral image in Soft Sea Foam ink for some added detail. Then, the sentiment and a trio of butterflies in Blushing Bride ink and there you have it, a beautiful butterfly card ready to pop in the mail to a sweet friend.

Butterfly Hello for Paper Players #244

Hello there! This week at The Paper Players, the always fabulous LeAnne is our challenge hostess. She has selected a beautiful trio of colors to play along with: Lost Lagoon, Sahara Sand and Pistachio Pudding. These colors are GORGEOUS together!
I decided to finally take my Butterfly Thinlits Dies out of the package for this card. I have had them for months and kind of forgot about them. That is a sign that you have too many things in my stamp studio, right? Ha! I wanted the card to be "kind of" shabby chic but still clean, so I kept the embellishments to a minimum and sponged some ink around the edges. Of course, I had a LOT of help from my kitten Sophie with the sponges, as she kept stealing them off my desk and running out of the room.

I used the Spring Flowers Embossing folder for some texture on the background, along with adding a little baker’s twine bow. I wanted the focus to be on the big butterfly, so I decided on a tiny banner sentiment from the (ret.) Banner Blast stamp set, dressed up with one itty bitty pearl.
Please join us over at The Paper Players this week!
The challenge will close Friday, May 15th, 2015 at Noon (PST).

Before I sign off, here is a photo of my little stamping helper back when she was a tiny baby and now. Sophie is 10 months old now and a fluffy, little trouble-maker. She is pretty adorable though, so she gets away with a lot. Have a great day! :)

Washi Tape Feel Goods for Paper Players #192

Hello there stamping friends! Happy Easter, to those who celebrate the holiday. This week at the Paper Players, the lovely Nance is our hostess with a super-fun challenge. It's CAS (clean and simple) week and the twist is to feature one of my absolute favorite craft supplies: washi tape. I don't know about you but I have an enormous collection of washi tape in my stamp room. It's a quick and easy way to add a pop of color or pattern to a project.
For my card, I went with SU! Gingham Garden Designer Washi Tape because I love the bright and cheery colors and patterns. I used markers to color in the stamped phrase and a tiny punched butterfly for dimension. Finally some bling and colored Candy Dots to dress it up a bit. The strip of embossing is not SU! but I really felt like the card needed something to tie the two corners of washi tape patterns together on the card.

This was a super easy card to make and I actually didn't use 10 layers on a CAS card, like I tend to do. Ha! I loved this challenge and it really got me excited to actually USE some of that washi tape I am hoarding.
Please join us over at the Paper Players!  The challenge is open through Friday, April 25th, 2014 at Noon (PDT). Stop by and say hello to the rest of the Design Team to see what they are sharing this week.

Positively Chevron for Paper Players #150

Well hello there stamping friends! Long time, no blog, eh? I am back from a wee blogging vacation and really excited to get back into my craft room once again. I am the challenge hostess this week over at the Paper Players and it's all about my favorite embellishment : BLING! We are focusing on Clean-and Simple (CAS) projects showing off the sparkle. I hope you will join us and play along.
For my card, I used some brand new Stampin' Up! products that just came out in the 2013-2014 catalog. I LOVE the Positively Chevron background stamp and couldn't wait to get it inked up. I used VersaMark ink and them embossed the image with Heat and Stick Powder. Then sprinkled a whole bunch of fine silver glitter all over the patterns and there you go...a background that truly packs a sparkly punch. The colors are new as well: Smoky Slate and Coastal Cabana.

I originally had used the light bulb image from the Crazy, Mixed Up Love stamp set, that went with the sentiment. I just felt like the card needed more dimension, so a simple punched butterfly was added instead. The sentiment still works, too. This is one sparkly card, indeed! But I think it still falls into the CAS category because it was quick and easy to put together.
Please join us this week over at the Paper Players! The challenge is open through Friday, June 21st at NOON (PDT). Please check out what the rest of the Design Team have created with this week's clean and simple challenge.
