Wiggle Worm for PP455

Hello and Happy Sunday stamping friends! Hope you are enjoying your weekend so far. It’s time for another fun challenge over at The Paper Players! This week, Joanne has a great Clean-and-Simple (CAS) Challenge for us: “Cards for Kids”
So, I have to share a little secret with you. When I wrote down all of the weekly challenge for the month in my planner, I had the “Cards for Kids” theme in there but neglected to write down the Clean-and-Simple part. When I went to post my card to our blog, I just shook my head. That’s basically how my week has been going. Y’all know I love layers though, so this is still CAS for me, right? It is what it is. Sigh. I know my fellow Design Team Members will get a chuckle at me because they know I struggle with CAS cards. Big hugs ladies, please forgive my oops this week.

Today’s Colors:

Let’s talk about the card, shall we? I decided to use the Wiggle Worm Bundle because I think it is perfect for kids of ALL ages. The little critters in this set are so stinking cute, too! I’m not sure what kind of bug this little cutie is, but I’m calling her a firefly so that’s where my color inspiration started out. Right now, I can’t seem to stop using Pretty Peacock and Mango Melody and they were perfect to compliment the leafy print in the Dinoroar Designer Series Paper

I colored the bug using the Light and Dark Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends and then added some Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to her eyes, the middle layer of her tiny body and the tips of her wings for some sparkly detail. Of course, there are rhinestones…because, why not?
I added a little but of texture to the background with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and then a little more to a piece of Pool Party Cardstock using the Corrugated 3D Embossing Folder. I don’t have any ribbon in Pool Party (well, maybe I do…I couldn’t FIND any) so this was a nice alternative. That little leaf die cut cracks me up. It looks like a little bite has been taken out of it! I took the die cut piece from the center of the leaf and added it behind the oval dies so as not to waste it

To add a little pop of color behind the little bug on her leaf, I used a Pool Party Stampin’ Write Marker. I just flicked the tip of the marker on the edge of the cap to create little “inky dots” on the background. It’s a subtle little detail but it adds some color to the background to make that little firefly stand out on the background.  All of the supplies I used to create this card are listed at the end of this post.

Card Measurements:
  • Mango Melody Card Base - 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
  • Pretty Peacock Cardstock - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock (embossed with Subtle 3D Embossing Folder) - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Dinoroar Designer Series Paper - 2” x 3-7/8”
  • Pool Party Cardstock (embossed with Corrugated 3D Embossing Folder) - 1/2” x 3-7/8”
  • Scraps of Mango Melody, Pretty Peacock, Old olive and Whisper White Cardstock for stamping ad die cutting
  • Pretty Peacock Cardstock (inside card) - 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside card) - 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Dinoroar Designer Series Paper (inside card) - 1-1/4” x 3-7/8”
For the inside of the card, I left it blank but dressed it up with a strip of DSP and some layered cardstock. I wasn’t gong to post the photo, but figured I was already having a “layer party” on this card, so why not share a few more.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my card today, with all of its lovely layers. Ha! I guess we can call this one "CAS-ish” and someone will pay better attention to that for future challenges. *wink, wink*

I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project with our CAS Cards for Kids. We’d love to see what you come up with! You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday August 23rd, 2019.

  7. First, really great layout and elements on your tropical feel card. The sentiment had me saying "cute as a bug in a rug". The leaf almost could pass as a rug...but like the leaf much better! Adorable card!

  8. With a firefly this cute, I think we'll forgive you the CAS oversight AM - besides, I think this card is quite CAS for you ;-) I love the composition of your card - the leaf, the DSP, the texture and the rain dots - the whole thing works together beautifully. Cute as a bug (on a leaf not in a rug!)
