Varied Vases for FF0044

Hello and Happy Friday to you! It’s time for another fun challenge over on the Festive Friday blog. For this challenge, our festivity is Day of the Dead, which begins on Oct 31st and ends on November 2nd. How do you play along? Use the Inspo List (below) which features 10 different elements to choose from to create your project. Incorporate THREE (or more) of the items in your project and link up! The project does NOT have to focus on the festivity itself, just the elements in the list. Easy, right?
To get started on ideas for my card, I focused on the following FOUR  items on the Inspo List: Black - Bright Colors - Sparkle - Flowers. Once I picked out the items that inspired me, I decided to pull out the Varied Vases stamp set and coordinating Vase Builder Punch to create my card. I LOVE that Inspo List as a starting point to creating!

I saw a card with a similar layout in a monochromatic color scheme on Pinterest a while back and it inspired me to incorporate this bright and cheery color combo.

Color Combo:

To get started, I stamped 2 vases in Bermuda Bay ink on Bermuda Bay Cardstock and punched them out with the coordinating Vase Builder Punch. Then I stamped 3 vases in Versamark ink on Whisper White Cardstock and heat embossed them in the Shimmer Black Embossing Powder. Always remember to use an Embossing Buddy when using dark embossing powder on white paper…it tends to spread everywhere if you don’t.

From there, I lined up the vases (without adhering them to the card) on a strip of Melon Mambo cardstock die cut with the stitched scalloped border from the Stitched Be Mine Dies. It creates a little “shelf” for the vases so they aren’t floating in thin air on the card. Once I had the vases lined up to where all of the stamped images would fit, I started stamping the flowers in Tuxedo Black Momento Ink and then popped up the vases on Stampin’ Dimensionals covering up the “stems”.
This stamp set does feature images which actually fill in the “insides” of the floral images, making it a two-step stamp. However, I opted to use my Stampin’ Blends Markers to color the flowers in, so I could add a little bit of extra shading to some of the centers of the flowers. Here’s a fun fact…those pink flowers were actually colored with the Light Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Blends marker and ended up looking more like Melon Mambo, so I went with it. I also colored a couple of rhinestones using the Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends to add some extra pops of sparkly color as well.

 Card Measurements:
  • Bermuda Bay Card Base - 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
  • Basic Black Cardstock - 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock - 5” x 3-3/4”
  • Whisper White Cardstock (for sentiment, stamped and one end trimmed with Tailored Tag Punch) - 2” x 1/2”
  • Scraps of Whisper White, Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo Cardstock for stamped and punched images
  • Whisper White Cardstock (inside card) - 5-1/4” x 4”
Finally, here is a look inside the card. I stamped a coordinating sentiment and added another floral image. I had an extra heat embossed vase so I popped it up on a Stampin’ Dimensional. It "keeps the party going" from the front of the card, which adds fun detail.

Hop on over to the Festive Friday blog to see what the rest of the Design Team shared this week. We’d love to have you join us with your project! The challenge is open from today through Monday October 28th at 8:00 PM CST, so you have plenty of time to play along.
