Biggest Wish for PP548

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, I am super-excited to be hosting our monthly Theme Challenge.
Since today is July 4th or Independence Day here in the United States, I thought it would be fun to have a “Stars and/or Stripes” theme this week. Keep in mind that your cards do not have to be patriotic or centered around the holiday (unless you want them to be). Any color combo and any occasion will do. Just focus on Stars and/or Stripes as the featured element on your card. Have fun!

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
Color Combo:
I decided I wanted to incorporate both stars AND stripes to create a fun birthday card. I recently ordered the Biggest Wish stamp set and have been itching to ink it up. I just love the big, bold sentiments in this set. I think they look really cool layered together, too. I guess my card ended up being red, white and blue…just not in the “traditional” more patriotic combo. Poppy Parade and Bermuda Bay always remind me of summer when paired together. I have no idea why. I think this layout could be fun with SO many other color combos, too. Plus, it’s a great way to use up some of those scraps of cardstock that we all have hanging around in the craft room.

The Stitched Stars Dies are one of my favorite sets! I didn’t have any silver paper that was current in the Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog, so I decided to make my own by heat embossing a scrap of white cardstock with silver embossing powder. Once the embossing powder cooled, I cut out the stars. No foil paper, no problem! I also wanted to add a little baker’s twine for some texture, so I popped a little “faux bow” behind the star.
Card Measurements and Details:
  • Thick Basic White Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Poppy Parade Cardstock: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8" , emboss using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder
  • Basic White Cardstock: 3-1/2” x 4-3/4”
  • Strips of Cardstock measuring 3-1/4” x 1/2”: Poppy Parade (3), Bermuda Bay (3), Basic White (3, emboss using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder)
  • Basic White Cardstock 3-3/4” x 1-1/4”, stamp sentiment in Poppy Parade and Bermuda Bay ink then punch a banner end on the left side of cardstock
  • Basic White Cardstock: scrap measuring about 2-3/4” x 2-3/4”, press the cardstock into the Versamark ink pad and cover with silver embossing powder. Heat emboss and die cut two stars from the Stitched Stars Dies.
  • White Baker’s Twine and Rhinestone Basic Jewels
