Hooray for Surprises for PP675

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, Joanne is hosting our Theme Challenge.

This theme Joanne has selected has so much versatility. With Valentine’s Day coming up, it’s a great time to get going with those cards. But there are so many other occasions that would work for this challenge: weddings, anniversaries, or simply just to let someone special know they are loved. It’s a great time to make some handmade happy mail! I sure hope you will join us over at The Paper Players. We’d love to see what YOU create!

*I’ve shared measurements and a full supply list of products used to create this card at the end of this post.

Color Combo:
When I saw the challenge, I knew I wanted to stay away from a Valentine’s card with traditional Valentine’s colors. NOT that there is anything wrong with either of those things. I just really wanted to dig into some new craft supplies and that’s how I came upon the Hooray for Surprises stamp set and coordinating dies from the Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalog. This Bundle can create “hidden messages” on cards and that’s what made me want to buy it. However, for this card, I decided to focus simply on the dies and fabulous sentiments.

Once I settled on a color combo, I decided to pull out this lovely heart pattern from the Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper. (This paper was JUST added to the new product list you can earn for FREE With a qualifying purchase this month during Sale-A-Bration. Get more info HERE.) A few of the hearts are colored on this pattern, but they were a little more pink than I would have liked. So, I took a Fresh Freesia Stampin’ Blends marker and colored over those hearts and added color to a few more. I popped on some sparkly papers and my new favorite Pretty Peacock Gold Metallic Ribbon. I love how this card came together and I hope you do as well!

Measurements and Details:
  • Fresh Freesia Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Basic White Cardstock: 4-1/8” x 5-3/8” (2 pieces, for front and interior)
  • Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper: 4” x 5-1/4” and 4” x 3/4” (interior)
  • Pretty Peacock Soft Shimmer Specialty Paper: 4” x 3/4”
  • More Dazzle Specialty Paper: 4” x 1/2”, die-cut with scalloped border from Hooray for Surprises Dies
  • Fresh Freesia: scrap to stamp sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink and die-cut heart from Hooray for Surprises Bundle/

Finally, here is a peek inside the card! I stamped a few hearts from the Hello For Surprises stamp set in Fresh Freesia ink and added a layer. I colored some of the hearts on the DSP with a Fresh Freesia Stampin’ Blends marker, just like I did on the front and popped in a birthday sentiment. I ALWAYS need birthday cards, so this is going to a special family member.

I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project for our “To the One I Love” Theme ChallengeWe’d love to see what you come up with! You can link up your project through Noon PST on Friday February 9th, 2024

  2. Wonderful color choices! Lovely card, Anne Marie!

  3. What a great way to feature this paper Anne Marie - with your pink focal heart it makes for a Valentine that is not too 'pink' - I love it! I'm thinking I might have to get some of that shimmer paper too....

  4. The colour combination works so very well. A sweet and pretty card!

  5. Oh, Anne Marie...I had totally overlooked this stamp set, and now, because of you, it is on my list! Beautiful color choices! What a perfect choice of designer paper! LOVE this card!

  6. Anne Marie, that white mat behind the patterned paper is the perfect color to separate the paper from the base. The ribbon behind the heart adds a fabulous touch of texture. Fabulous card.

  7. Anne Marie, I just love this sweet card in the non traditional color combo! The shimmer adds so much detail and the ribbon is the perfect finishing touch!

  8. Very charming card. Love the color scheme and all those fun hearts.
